‘Out in Nature’ – Wolf Runner Connie

We are a pack of 17 women running the Winter Wolf Run on Sunday 3rd November to raise money for two causes: the mental health charity MIND and the Women in Power (WiP) Bursary Fund. Please read our full story and donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/wip-wolf-run

We raise money annually for the WiP Bursary Fund but this year is different; we are running and fundraising in honour of our sister and friend, Jayne Blackman, who died by suicide in 2018. We want to double our fundraising so that we can give to both organisations.

Today we hear from Connie who shares her memories of Jayne:

‘I experienced a real kindness that seemed to emit from her and that has stayed with me.’

Taking on the Winter Wolf Run is no small feat. Each woman running is doing so for their own personal reasons as well as for our collective goal. We range in age from 5 decades, from different walks of life and represent the power of communal action.

Let’s hear more from Connie

The first time I did the Wolf Run I didn’t realise quite how much I loved being in AND covered in mud.

Everyone that knows me, knows how much I hate running, but the Wolf Run for me is different. I realise I do love running in fact – when I am in nature, in the fields and running through the trees. The adventurous part of me kicks in and I just love it. I love how all my senses become engaged, the smell of the trees, the sounds of birds and the shift in my mind that seems to happen when I am out in nature.

What I also didn’t realise at my first Wolf Run was that it would be the first and last time that I would meet Jayne. I remember having a conversation with her the night before, in our towels outside the sauna and I experienced a real kindness that seemed to emit from her and that has stayed with me.

I felt the strong pull to join the pack again this time round, to enjoy all the fun and laughter of running with a wonderful bunch of women. MIND and WiP I feel are so necessary in the world right now, more than ever. Running in support of these two organisations and in memory of Jayne feels like an all-round honour.

Please donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/wip-wolf-run and give what you can. For each donation, big or small, we thank you so much for helping us achieve our goal and giving back to organisations creating positive change in the world.
